The launch of Mitsubishi Pajero Sport in India has been suspended by the Tsunami in Japan and floods in Thailand. But this time Mitsubishi has announced its plans about the launch of the Pajero Sport for the Indian automotive market by February 2012.
The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will be assembled at Hindustan Motors-Mitsubishi’s Chennai manufacturing unit. The company is planning to increase the localization of the SUV to price it competitively placing it under the Rs. 20 lakh range so that it can give fair competition to Toyota’s Fortuner and Ford’s Endeavour amongst others.
The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will be powered by a 2.5-litre, 16-valve intercooled turbocharged CRDI diesel motor, offering power of 135 Bhp and 320 Nm of torque. This engine is likely to be mated to either a 5 speed manual transmission or a 5 speed automatic transmission.
Furthermore, the Pajero Sport will be competing with Toyota Fortuner comes first paved in India. Both in India has a fairly high market share. Given the character of Indian society is more like an SUV than a car with the type of city car.
